The Good Life

Look at these bad boys...

These are part of our very own potato crop! It seems like ages ago that we planted the seed potatoes and I've been battling past the flipping plants every morning as I take my bike out of the back gate to go to work, but boy was it worth it ;-) Perhaps we should get a goat next...

By the way, this photo was taken with my new phone - pretty good, in my humble opinion.

Am I a geek?

I think I might be, the picture below is GPS points from 4 laps of the Nurburgring overlayed on a satellite image from Google Earth :-)

I think it's quite cool.

The 'Nurburgring or Bust' Tour 2006 - Day 3

It's official, driving the Nurbugring is one of the maddest experiences of my life to date! For a start, everyone else on the circuit is nuts, whether they're in a Porsche 911 Turbo or a stripped out 1980's VW Golf they'll be on the ragged edge at every corner. Then you have the Ring Taxis which offer the public a hot lap driven by a professional in BMW M5. Nothing wrong with that you might think, but there is when they overtake you, on the outside of a sweeping righthander, effortlessly drifting the car while you're struggling, just to make it round in one piece!

Anyway, it's been a blast, we are still in one piece and after another 300 miles we're in Belgium enjoying a beer :-)

Here's today's picture diary...

Welcome to crazy town!

The 'Nurburgring or Bust' Tour 2006 - Day 2

What a day! We started out with an early morning tour of the Moet et Chandon Champagne house, this was amazing, and with 18km of breathtaking cellars I'd recommend it to anyone. Then we ended the day with each of us successfully completing our first ever laps of the Nurburgring, a truly incredible experience which is impossible to explain :-D

Some pictures from today; outside Moet et Chandon, their tribute "the man", our transport and today's route...

I've got to go now as our after dinner game of poker overran somewhat and I really need some sleep.

The 'Nurburgring or Bust' Tour 2006 - Day 1

Having arrived safely in Dunkerque (on the most bling ferry I've ever seen, I might add) we prepared the Smart for travel in mainland Europe and hit the motorway. After a few hours we decided to leave the motorway and do the final hour or so of our journey cruising through the fantastic Champagne countryside. Now we're in our hotel in Epernay, just freshening up ready for a night of Champagne tasting, it is the local product after all and so would seem rude not to ;-)

Today's route...

The 'Nurburgring or Bust ' Tour 2006

And we're off!

After a 'delightful' stay in one of the Dover Travel Inns last night, my mate Jon and I are up bright and early to begin our tour through Europe in search of the world famous driving challenge that is, The Nurburgring!

What better way to start than to fuel up on the boat with a full English...
