Driving vs Flying

Well we're back at home after a fantastic holiday in Les Gets. More pictures to follow but in the meantime I just wanted to report back on the whole driving vs flying experience.

In short, we loved it!

On the way down we took an extra day of holiday and stopped off in Dijon. This really broke up the journey made the whole holiday feel much longer. It also meant that when we got to resort on Saturday we were very relaxed and already fully in holiday mode. Just as a comparison, two of our friends had to get up at 2am that morning in order to catch their flight and so were inevitably exhausted when they arrived.

On the way back however we drove from Les Gets to Norwich in one stint! I though this was going to be really tough but thanks to the quality of the french roads and the Eurostar it was a breeze - in France we drove 500 miles in 8 hours, including getting down the mountain and stopping for fuel/food etc!

From comparing with the rest of our gang who flew, driving took about 3-4 hours longer (this could be more/less depending on where you live) but avoided all the faffing associated with flying, it allows you to set your own agenda, costs about the same and most importantly, we also contributed about half the carbon into the atmosphere :-D

I'm sure it's not for everyone but I am definately converted!

Bonjour, tout le monde!

So, my first blog after turning 30! Thankfully I still seem to be able to operate modern technology and I didn't go bald or grey over night which was another concern. My actual birthday (on Saturday) was very cool; room service breakfast in Dijon with a few presents, a quick go with the new skis on slope near our chalet in the afternoon and then a BBQ on our balcony overlooking a beautiful snowy valley in the evening :-)

Here are a few pics...

Another Mini adventure Our very nice chalet, thanks Ellen

The view from the chalet If Carlsberg arranged BBQ's...

Thanks for the Champagne Dad :-) I'm a man, I had to light the fire.

First day on the slopes looked like this... ....not bad we thought ;-)

Ouch!

I had a very odd experience yesterday, I had a tooth taken out at the dentist. I am not exactly the best patient in the dentist chair and so having an extraction wasn't ever going to be a pleasant experience. The reason it was odd though is that I am now soooooooo glad I had the tooth out because I'm no longer in pain and popping pain killers every 3-4 hours! I slept properly for the first time in ages last night and had got so used to the constant pain that with it gone I now feel permanently elated!

The moral of the story is clear - No pain no gain! Oh, and, love your dentist :-)

Hurrah 2!

Only 4 days to go until we go skiing

I picked up my new skis today and Ellen and I also finally managed to conquer the roof rack we bought as we're driving this year :-)

As you can see from the pictures, I can't wait, and there's 60cm of snow forecast this week!

The road trials went well by the way, some whistling and strap flapping but nothing that can't be fixed :-)

Hurrah!

The Formula One season has started! In the Fernau house this means 6 months of BBQ's, getting up at stupid o'clock (2am this weekend for example) and most importantly of all, 6 months of watching a Ferrari resurgence thanks to the Kimi/Massa dream team :-)

Thanks for your good work this morning on the Broil King Mr Lee.

Comic Relief

If you haven't done so already then why not spend 2 minutes helping out...
